What is Iron Infusion Therapy?

Iron infusions, also known as intravenous (IV) iron therapy, are treatments that help restore iron levels in people with iron deficiency anemia. This condition can develop during pregnancy or as a result of chronic illnesses such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, or celiac disease.

Unlike oral iron supplements, which are absorbed through the digestive system, iron infusions deliver iron directly into the bloodstream through an IV drip or injection. This direct method allows for faster absorption and more effective results, especially for people who:

  • Cannot tolerate oral iron supplements
  • Experience poor absorption of oral iron
  • Need rapid improvement of iron levels
