Managing Crohn’s and Colitis: Cody’s IBD Story
Cody was in his late twenties when he found himself spending more time in the bathroom than out, sometimes needing trips 20 times a day. His energy was depleted, and he knew his body wasn’t functioning the way it is supposed to. When the frequent bathroom visits included blood in his stool, Cody knew it was time to seek help. After multiple doctor visits and tests, Cody was diagnosed with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, two forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) affecting millions of individuals worldwide.
Following his first colonoscopy, Cody spent 22 days in the hospital. That experience pushed him to consider long-term treatment options, including biologic therapy. “It was a relief,” he says, “knowing that this is something manageable.” It wasn’t an easy decision but committing to long-term biologic therapy ultimately helped him regain control over his health and achieve a stable daily routine.
Care That Fits Your Life
For eight years, Cody has relied on BioScript Pharmacy and Coverdale Clinics for support in his treatment journey, taking a few breaks in between. He continues to receive reliable care from both the pharmacy and clinic, making his treatment experience seamless.
“It was a comfortable environment getting my injections,” he says. “[The pharmacy and clinic] work around your life, your schedule.”
BioScript supports patients like Cody who rely on complex therapies to manage chronic conditions, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Whether it's medication therapy management, injection training or navigating insurance, we focus on helping patients stay on treatment without interrupting their daily life.
“The biologics allow me to function on a day-to-day basis, just like everyone else,” says Cody.
Living Fully Again
Today, Cody continues to stay active and prioritizes the things that bring him joy like spending time with his family, watching/coaching his kids in their extracurricular activities, and going for family bike rides. He’s been a physical education teacher for the past 18 years, and in any extra freetime, you’ll see him on the golf course.
Being in remission allows him to enjoy the small things that once felt difficult - like eating during a round of golf or travelling with his family.
“That’s kind of the end goal,” Cody says, “to be someone who has colitis, but doesn’t have the symptoms tied to it.”
With his treatment in place and BioScript by his side, Cody has the energy to show up for his students, spend time with his wife, and enjoy life with his two kids.
